Update 14/03/2024 : Rock legends take to the screen in new Sky Arts series Johnson and Knopfler’s Music Legends.
Six part documentary series to air from 25th April on Sky Arts, featuring best friends and rock legends, Brian Johnson and Mark Knopfler
From hanging out with Elvis to drinking with David Bowie, a host of the world’s most iconic names reflect on the secrets of rock and roll in new series, Johnson and Knopfler’s Music Legends (6x60”). Audiences will be treated to a joyous journey through decades of music with exclusive access to a series of once-in-a-lifetime meetings, interviews and jam sessions between rock’s ultimate legends.
Join AC/DC singer, Brian Johnson and Dire Straits singer and guitarist, Mark Knopfler as they share their incredible knowledge and experiences with each other - and a hand-picked selection of music royalty. Guests including Sir Tom Jones, Nile Rodgers and Cyndi Lauper share stories from their own careers and discuss the tracks that shaped them as musicians and fans. Mark and Brian do the same, painting a fascinating portrait of their shared musical lives.
Episode 1: Johnson and Knopfler’s Music Legends: Tom Jones
In the series opener, Brian & Mark meet icon, Sir Tom Jones. In conversation and song, they reminisce on their earliest musical influences and Sir Tom shares captivating stories from his career, including his friendship with Elvis Presley.
Episode 2: Johnson and Knopfler’s Music Legends: Sam Fender
Brian & Mark visit Mark’s own British Grove recording studio to meet UK singer-songwriter and fellow Geordie, Sam Fender. Sam tells the story of his musical journey so far, discusses the influence Brian & Mark have had on him and shows them how to play Seventeen Going Under.
Episode 3: Johnson and Knopfler’s Music Legends: Cyndi Lauper
Brian & Mark hook up with 80s icon Cyndi Lauper at New York’s legendary recording studio, The Power Station. Cyndi discusses her tumultuous career in the music industry and brings her dulcimer along to teach Brian & Mark a special arrangement of her classic hit, True Colours.
Episode 4: Johnson and Knopfler’s Music Legends: Nile Rodgers
In Miami, Brian & Mark meet disco legend Nile Rodgers and explore his impressive musical career, from Studio 54 to David Bowie and Daft Punk. Nile and Mark jam together on an exclusive ‘Johnny Cash version’ of Chic’s disco classic, Good Times.
Episode 5: Johnson and Knopfler’s Music Legends: Carlos Santana
Brian & Mark travel to California to visit Carlos Santana, who recounts his incredible journey in music, from early days, through his Woodstock performance and resurgence in the late 90s. Together, they jam an amazing version of Black Magic Woman and Carlos plays some of his biggest hits.
Episode 6: Johnson and Knopfler’s Music Legends: Emmylou Harris
Brian & Mark head to Music City - Nashville - and meet up with Mark’s longtime friend and sometime collaborator, Emmylou Harris. Emmylou shares her career highlights and discusses her relationship with legendary country rock pioneer Gram Parsons. They’re also joined for an exclusive jam session with country music superstar guitarist, Vince Gill.

In celebration of Record Store Day UK (https://www.facebook.com/rsdayuk) / Record Store Day (https://www.facebook.com/RecordStoreDay) on 20th April, Mark will be releasing a special EP of original songs titled The Boy.
As a boy, Mark was captivated by the giant funfair held every year on Newcastle Town Moor. The songs on this new release connect themes of the fairgrounds and their boxing booths commonplace in the Britain of the 50s and early 60s.

A landmark in rock music history, this new, very special recording of Mark Knopfler’s anthemic ‘Going Home (Theme From Local Hero)’ has been recorded to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America.
Produced by Guy Fletcher, the track features an unprecedented line-up of some of the greatest guitarists and musicians in history.
The artwork has been designed by Sir Peter Blake (The Beatles, The Who, Band Aid). Released March 15th, the single will be released on CD, 12” with etched b-side, deluxe CD+BluRay, download and streaming (including a Dolby Atmos mix).

Cancer is different when you are younger: it can be harder to get a diagnosis, cancer treatments can be less effective for young people, and accessing clinical trials can be harder.
This project is raising funds for two charities that are dedicated to supporting this specific age group.
Teenage Cancer Trust funds specialist nurses and youth workers to be there for a young person when cancer has turned their world upside down and to help make sure cancer doesn’t rob young people of the best years of their life.
Teen Cancer America partners with hospitals throughout the United States to develop specialized facilities and services for teens and young adults with cancer.

Update 21/11/2023 : Mark Knopfler to auction Brothers In Arms guitars :
Mark Knopfler is to auction more than 120 of his guitars and amps, with 25% of the proceeds going to charity.
The sale includes the 1983 Les Paul that Knopfler used to record the hits Money For Nothing and Brothers In Arms, and which he played on stage at Live Aid in 1985.
The singer-songwriter told the BBC he wanted the instruments to find loving homes.
"I hope they all get played," he said. "I don't think they do too well living in a case all their lives."

Update 11/11/2023 : Brothers In Arms Memorial Park Belgium , Flanders Fields :
The Brothers In Arms Memorial Park wants to commemorate all pairs of brothers and sisters who fought together in de First World War and of whom at least 1 was killed during the war.
The memorial park also intends to have people reflecting on the impact of war on families worldwide.
The monument has some lyrics from Mark Knopfler's song Brothers In Arms.

Update 13/09/2023 : Brendan Croker overleden (15th August 1953 - 10th September 2023) :
He was a true artist in every way, appeared eccentric to many but was positive, brave and generous to a fault.
We had many happy years sharing music including touring and singing with our mutual pal Steve Phillips in the Notting Hillbillies.
The song I can hear Brendan singing now is the one we used to finish our set with, ‘Feel Like Going Home’.
My thoughts are with Brendan’s partner Ali and their friends everywhere.'

Update 1/09/2023 : Jack Sonni overleden (December 9, 1954 – August 30, 2023) :
Jack was a genuine guitar enthusiast who loved to play, jam, and talk guitars and amps all day.
He joined us on tour during the Brothers in Arms era and took to life on the road with the band like a fish to water.
Jack made friends wherever he went and will be missed by his many pals worldwide. Our thoughts are with his family at this time.’

Mark Knopfler broke through in the late 1970s as the leader of rock band Dire Straits, with hits including “Sultans of Swing” and “Money for Nothing,” but his solo career has proven every bit as creatively fruitful.
Heavily influenced by country music as a child in Scotland and England, Knopfler has collaborated extensively with Nashville musicians including Chet Atkins, Richard Bennett, and Emmylou Harris, and his songs are championed in Nashville by music publisher David Conrad, songwriter Paul Kennerley, and many others.
Knopfler came to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum’s audio lair for an episode of Voices in the Hall, talking about his life in music and his country connections.

Update 19/08/2021 : The Princess Bride' In Concert :
The world premiere of 'The Princess Bride' In Concert took place on July 31 at The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
The live-to-picture performance was introduced by the director, Rob Reiner, and the film was accompanied by a full orchestral adaptation of Mark’s original score, performed by LA Phil.
The magic continues with dates for more US performance screenings now announced in San Francisco, Vienna, Milwaukee, Grand Rapids, Portland and Nashville, plus more locations to be announced.

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Mark’s debut solo release Golden Heart in 1996, a new box set, Mark Knopfler – The Studio Albums 1996-2007, will be released on 1st October Worldwide, and 10th December in the US.
The box will be released on vinyl across 11 LPs, and on CD over 6 discs, featuring Mark’s first five studio albums as a solo artist:
• Golden Heart – first time ever on vinyl
• Sailing To Philadelphia – first time ever on vinyl
• The Ragpicker’s Dream
• Shangri-La
• Kill To Get Crimson
• Plus – an exclusive bonus disc of studio b-sides from this period, entitled Gravy Train: The B-Sides 1996-2007
The audio of each album has been newly remastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios in London.

Mark’s original score for the beloved film, ’The Princess Bride’, has been newly orchestrated and will have its world premiere on 31st July at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.
Performed live-to-picture by the renowned Los Angeles Philharmonic, and conducted by David Newman, this is set to be a magical evening under the stars. Tickets and information here.

It’s painful to have to report more sad news in such sad times: but Kerry Lewis, a much loved and treasured member of our touring crew for many years, passed away on January 26th.
Kerry had been combating cancer for some time and finally succumbed to his illness. Kerry was a lovely and talented guy, our stage monitor sound engineer and a tremendous asset to our team.
The success of every performance was what drove him endlessly.
All our thoughts go out to Kerry’s family and friends at this time.
Goodbye Kerry – we’re all raising a glass in the direction of your beloved Wales.’

‘Dire Straits: The Studio Albums 1978 – 1991’ will be available as a 6CD box set on 9th October alongside National Album Day in the UK, featuring the multi-platinum ‘Dire Straits’ (1978), ‘Communiqué’ (1979), ‘Making Movies’ (1980), ‘Love Over Gold’ (1982), ‘Brothers In Arms’ (1985) and ‘On Every Street’ (1991).
Each album will include a poster with the original sleeve artwork, including lyrics and credits.
For vinyl collectors, the popular 8LP 180-gram vinyl box set has been re-pressed due to overwhelming public demand, and will be out globally on the same day including the US for the first time.

Broadcasting from his British Grove Studios in West London, Knopfler (whose time as lead guitarist in Dire Straits included recording one of the best-selling albums in history, Brothers in Arms) will play some of his favorite music — from early roots, blues, and rock n’ roll to contemporary — hand-selected from his personal record collection.
